Starting A Business In North Baldwin

Starting a business in Baldwin County, Alabama, involves several important registration and compliance steps. Entrepreneurs must first determine their legal business structure—such as a sole proprietorship, LLC, or corporation—and register the entity with the Alabama Secretary of State if applicable. Businesses must also obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS for tax purposes. At the local level, owners must verify that their chosen location is properly zoned through the City of Bay Minette Planning and Zoning or  Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Department. A business license must be obtained through the Baldwin County Probate Office, and businesses located within city limits must also secure a separate City of Bay Minette  license. Depending on the nature of the business, additional requirements may include health department permits for food or beverage operations, personal property assessment with the Baldwin County Revenue Commissioner’s Office, and permits for signage or construction. For additional guidance, entrepreneurs can access consulting services through the Alabama Small Business Development Center (ASBDC).
